American Cancer Society Teams up with Aflac to Encourage Proactive Health Care and Early Detection for Policyholders
Feb 25, 2025
Signature programs such as Road To Recovery and Hope Lodge to be among highlighted programs

ATLANTA, Feb. 25, 2025 – A cancer diagnosis impacts every aspect of a person’s life leading many to seek out support and services within their community to help cope with this new normal. As cancer incidence rates continue to rise, the need for these resources becomes more apparent. To encourage proactive health care and assist in mitigating health care costs and other challenges, the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Aflac are teaming up to bring attention to the connection between health and wellness, preventative care and the physical, emotional and financial toxicity of a cancer diagnosis.

Throughout this year, ACS and Aflac will work together to raise awareness about cancer prevention and early detection amongst employees, businesses and consumers nationwide. Aligning with Aflac’s core mission to provide benefits to policyholders before, during and after a cancer diagnosis, ACS programs and services will be shared, which will particularly benefit those who have experienced a cancer diagnosis, and are facing potential financial and logistical challenges, including:

  • Road To Recovery®, a program that offers free rides to cancer-related medical appointments.
  •  Hope Lodge®, a free patient lodging program for cancer patients seeking treatment outside of their community.
  • The launch of cancer.org/Aflac which will provide resources on financial challenges, emotional wellness and managing cancer risks.

“We’re pleased to be working with Aflac in this mutual effort to make our services and programs more readily available to those who need it the most,” said Dr. Arif Kamal, chief patient officer at the American Cancer Society. “Cancer can’t be fought alone. It takes a great deal of community support and greater access to resources to overcome the obstacles that many people with cancer, and their loved ones, face every day.”

Earlier this year, ACS announced its Cancer Statistics, 2025 report, noting that more than two million new cancer diagnoses are expected to be reported this year alone. The study underscores the need for greater awareness of ACS resources as it found a rise in many cancers among women under the age of 50, surpassing cancer incidence rates in men by 82 percent.

Aflac Incorporated President Virgil Miller said, “Aflac and the American Cancer Society are closely aligned on this mission, and we are pleased to partner with them to better serve families facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. These shared programs and a strong focus on wellness and overall preventive care will help impact lives in a positive way with better health and financial outcomes when a person is diagnosed with cancer early.”

As an added level of commitment, Miller will initiate the first CEOs Against Cancer chapter in Georgia, where Aflac and ACS are headquartered, joining a group of prominent CEOs across the nation. Miller will accept a two-year term as chair of the newly created organization and serve as a spokesperson for the chapter.
